Publication Ethics

Applied Engineering: Jurnal Rekayasa dan Sains Terapan is a peer-reviewed and open-access scholarly journal published by PT Global Research Media Group.

This publication ethics statement serves as a code of conduct for all parties involved in the publication process of this journal, including the publisher, journal management, editors, reviewers, and authors. The code of ethics for scholarly publication upholds three fundamental ethical principles: neutrality, which means being free from conflicts of interest in publication management; fairness, which means giving authorship rights only to those who are entitled to be recognized as authors; and honesty, which means being free from duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism in scholarly publication.

This publication ethics policy refers to the Regulation of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences, LIPI Regulation Number 5 of 2014 concerning the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publication.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Journal Management

The journal management is responsible for:

  1. determining the journal name, scientific scope, publication frequency, and accreditation status, where applicable;

  2. determining the membership of the Editorial Board;

  3. defining the relationship among the publisher, editors, reviewers, authors, and other relevant parties through appropriate agreements;

  4. respecting confidential matters related to contributors, authors, editors, and reviewers;

  5. implementing norms and regulations concerning intellectual property rights, particularly copyright;

  6. reviewing journal policies and communicating them to authors, editors, reviewers, and readers;

  7. preparing codes of conduct for editors and reviewers;

  8. publishing the journal regularly according to its stated publication schedule;

  9. ensuring the availability of financial resources to support the sustainability of journal publication;

  10. developing cooperation, networking, and journal dissemination strategies; and

  11. preparing legal permissions, administrative documents, and other relevant legal aspects related to journal management.

Duties and Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for:

  1. meeting the needs of readers and authors;

  2. continuously improving the quality of journal publications;

  3. implementing processes to ensure the quality of published manuscripts;

  4. upholding objective freedom of expression;

  5. maintaining the integrity of the authors’ academic record;

  6. issuing corrections, clarifications, retractions, or apologies when necessary;

  7. being responsible for the style and format of published manuscripts, while the content and statements within the manuscripts remain the responsibility of the authors;

  8. actively seeking input from authors, readers, reviewers, and members of the Editorial Board to improve publication quality;

  9. encouraging journal evaluation when necessary or when relevant findings are identified;

  10. supporting initiatives to reduce errors in research and publication, including by requesting ethical clearance documents where required;

  11. supporting initiatives to educate researchers about publication ethics;

  12. reviewing the effects of editorial policies on the attitudes and responsibilities of authors and reviewers, and improving such policies to minimize publication errors;

  13. maintaining openness toward new ideas, arguments, or perspectives that may differ from personal views;

  14. avoiding the defense of personal opinions, author interests, or third-party interests that may compromise editorial objectivity; and

  15. encouraging authors to improve their manuscripts until they meet the journal’s publication standards.

Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers are responsible for:

  1. reviewing manuscripts assigned by the editor and submitting review results to the editor as a basis for determining manuscript eligibility for publication;

  2. declining to review manuscripts in which they have direct or indirect involvement or conflicts of interest;

  3. maintaining the confidentiality of the manuscript and not disseminating review results, corrections, suggestions, or recommendations to unauthorized parties;

  4. providing constructive criticism, suggestions, comments, and recommendations to improve the quality of the manuscript;

  5. encouraging authors to improve their manuscripts in accordance with scholarly standards;

  6. re-evaluating revised manuscripts when requested by the editor; and

  7. reviewing manuscripts in a timely manner according to the journal’s guidelines, publication style, and scientific principles, including the appropriateness of research methods, data presentation, authorship validity, conclusions, and other relevant scholarly aspects.

Duties and Responsibilities of Authors

Authors are responsible for:

  1. ensuring that all individuals listed as authors meet the criteria for authorship;

  2. taking collective responsibility for the work and content of the article, including methods, analysis, calculations, findings, and supporting details;

  3. disclosing all sources of support, including direct or indirect funding;

  4. explaining the limitations of the study;

  5. responding to reviewers’ comments professionally and in a timely manner;

  6. informing the editor if they intend to withdraw the manuscript from the publication process; and

  7. declaring that the submitted manuscript is original, has not been published elsewhere in any language, and is not under consideration by another publisher or journal.

Publication Misconduct

The journal does not tolerate any form of publication misconduct, including plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, citation manipulation, authorship misconduct, peer-review manipulation, or unethical use of research data.

If publication misconduct is suspected or identified, the Editorial Board may request clarification from the authors, conduct further investigation, reject the manuscript, issue a correction, retract the article, or take other appropriate editorial actions in accordance with publication ethics principles.

Conflict of Interest

All parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, and reviewers, must disclose any potential conflict of interest that may influence the objectivity, integrity, or fairness of the publication process.

Editors and reviewers must not be involved in the evaluation of manuscripts in which they have personal, academic, institutional, financial, or professional conflicts of interest.

Confidentiality

Editors, reviewers, and journal management must maintain the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts, author information, reviewer identities, review reports, and editorial decisions. Manuscript content must not be used for personal advantage or shared with unauthorized parties before publication.

Corrections, Retractions, and Clarifications

The journal is committed to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record. Corrections, clarifications, retractions, or apologies may be issued when necessary, particularly in cases involving errors, inaccurate information, ethical concerns, or publication misconduct.

All editorial actions will be carried out carefully, fairly, and transparently to protect the integrity of the journal and the published scholarly record.
