Publication Process

Applied Science: Jurnal Sains dan Teknologi Terapan follows a structured publication process to ensure the quality, originality, integrity, and scientific relevance of all published articles. Each manuscript submitted to the journal must go through several editorial stages before publication.

1. Manuscript Submission

Authors submit their manuscripts through the journal’s online submission system. The manuscript must follow the journal template, author guidelines, and required ethical standards. Authors must ensure that the manuscript has not been published previously and is not under consideration by another journal.

2. Administrative Screening

After submission, the editorial team conducts an administrative screening to check the completeness of the manuscript, including article format, author information, abstract, keywords, references, statement of originality, and other required documents.

Manuscripts that do not meet the journal’s basic requirements may be returned to the authors for correction before proceeding to the next stage.

3. Similarity Check

All submitted manuscripts are checked for similarity using iThenticate or other reliable similarity detection tools. Manuscripts with excessive similarity, plagiarism, unattributed text overlap, improper citation, or duplicate publication may be returned for revision or rejected.

4. Initial Editorial Review

The Editorial Board evaluates the manuscript to determine its suitability with the journal’s aims and scope, originality, scientific quality, methodological clarity, practical relevance, and ethical compliance.

At this stage, the manuscript may be accepted for peer review, returned for preliminary revision, or rejected if it does not meet the journal’s editorial standards.

5. Peer Review Process

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial review are sent to external reviewers with relevant expertise in applied science, technology, engineering, environmental science, information systems, marine science, fisheries, or other related fields.

The journal applies a double-blind peer-review process, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers are kept confidential. Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on its relevance, originality, methodological soundness, scientific contribution, clarity of presentation, ethical aspects, and overall quality.

6. Editorial Decision

Based on the reviewers’ comments and recommendations, the Editorial Board makes one of the following decisions:

  1. accepted;

  2. accepted with minor revisions;

  3. major revisions required;

  4. resubmission required; or

  5. rejected.

The final decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief or the assigned editor based on reviewer recommendations, editorial evaluation, manuscript quality, and the author’s revisions.

7. Author Revision

If revisions are required, the manuscript is returned to the authors. Authors must revise the manuscript according to the reviewers’ and editors’ comments and submit a revised version within the specified time.

Authors are also expected to provide a response to reviewer comments explaining the revisions that have been made.

8. Final Editorial Evaluation

The revised manuscript is evaluated by the Editorial Board. Manuscripts with minor revisions may be assessed directly by the editor, while manuscripts with major revisions may be returned to the reviewers for further evaluation.

A manuscript will be accepted for publication only after it meets the journal’s scientific, methodological, ethical, and editorial standards.

9. Copyediting

Accepted manuscripts undergo copyediting to improve clarity, grammar, readability, consistency, citation style, and conformity with the journal format. Authors may be asked to review and approve editorial changes during this stage.

10. Layout Editing

After copyediting, the manuscript is prepared in the journal’s publication layout. The layout editing process ensures that the article follows the journal’s visual format, structure, and publication style.

11. Galley Proof Confirmation

The galley proof is sent to the corresponding author for final checking. Authors are expected to review and confirm the galley proof within 48 hours.

At this stage, only minor corrections related to typographical errors, author details, formatting, equations, tables, figures, or factual inaccuracies are allowed. Substantial content changes are not normally permitted.

12. Online Publication

After the galley proof is approved, the article is published online on the journal website. The published article will include complete metadata, such as title, author names, affiliations, abstract, keywords, publication date, and article file.

13. Indexing and Archiving

Published articles may be submitted, archived, or made available through relevant indexing services, repositories, digital libraries, and preservation systems according to the journal’s indexing and archiving policies.
